Comments: The behavior of these death drivers recently makes one assume they are intentionally trying to murder people and the incident on the Blacks Road would provide good evidence of this. The calliber of the people who are responsible for murdering your loved ones, bringing our commnities into disrepute and ruining so many lives can be clearly seen when looking at the cruel inhumane treatment of the priest and the beating of a defensless man while in his bed in Malone recently. As a young person living in West Belfast, I am increasingly becoming more aware of the danger of walking our streets from teatime onwards or when on my way home from work in the early hours at weekends. These people are terrorising our communities. I wholeheartedly support your campaign and pray that you all find some kind of comfort after the tragic and untimely death of your loved ones. Keep up the hard work, you are all a credit to the communities of Belfast.

Comments: i think car thiefs are wrong in what there doing, but lets not forget who indeed otught these people how to steal the cars. These so called R.C.j people these are the ones which over the years have shown he kids over each decade of how much fun you can have in a stolen car, these same people today are the paramiliry leaders running our estates are these the people we want running our comunity. These are the so called people which burgled houses stole cars and generally terorised the estates for many years, sum have the scares to prove it being kneecapped many years ago you must ask yourself first are these the people we want running these places. For many years i have lived in these estates and i know that when these so called joyriders are expelled from there area it tends to make things 10 times worse so lets think again what sort of people are running these estates and what mayhem they them selves have caused over the years. i think this site is a good idea but it aint going to help the problems on streets.

Comments: Firstly I would like to say that my heart goes out to all those bereaved through car crime, my prayers are with all those families that have suffered in this most dreadful way. I would like to make a point about this sort of crime and that is that we should all realise that it is not simply involving car thieves. There is a huge support for car crime generated by the acceptance of many to simply not paying road-tax,or displaying false tax discs, insurance or having a car MOT'd. Many cars on our roads are not even registered to those that now own them. This is the secondary level of car crime, the acceptable face, where beating the system is allowable. It also feeds the lie that to drive in this way is acceptable. It legitimises run-arounds and increases the possibility of hit and run deaths on our roads. Lets face it, if one of these run-a-round drivers (many without even licences) were to knock someone down, would they stop? Remember also that unscrupulous Taxi firms employ these people. How do they get away with it? Probably because people are afraid to confront them. Should we inform the PSNI?, CRJ? Others? Perhaps an 'annoymous' web-page should be set up to name and shame them. People who do this support Joyriding, Car Crime and Murder. We need to address this issue, we need to take away the joyriders support group!

Comments: I think the odds of a child being evolved in car-crime are more like 1-1000, the odds of a child re-offending once evolved in car-crime are a realistic 1-2 truancy is already a well known problem with children today. It always ends up in a fatality if not caught in the early stages. parents are always erged to seek out the help and assistance they may require to prevent their child turning into the mindless thug that kills another parents child. This is heart-breaking and there couldn't be a worse personal sentence for a bereaved family. Id like to point out that the F.B.T.C.C. are a cross community group and I know it will benefit us all when the day comes that we have more of such groups. Id like to say Scum (Impurities which rise to the surface of liquors) is a fitting word for these killers/death-riders/joy-riders/murderers. But I prefer the word Sable, (A small animal of the weasel family). And I can think of many more, How many can you come up with?.(:-P)

Comments: I WOULD LIKE TO START WITH I WHOLE HEARTIY BELIEVE AND SUPPORT THE F.B.T.C.C BUT SOME OF THE OBJECTIVES IN THE CAMPAIGN (I FEEL ARE BEING APPROACHED THE WRONG WAY) DON!T PLEASE BE OFFENED BY MY OPION BECAUSE THAT IS NOT MY INTTENTION I WOULD NEVER KNOCK YOUR HARD WORK I WOULD ONLY PRAISE! BUT THAT PRAISE I WOULD ONLY SHARE WITH MYSELF BECAUSE I AM AT THE RECEIVING END OF THE CAMPAGIN I PERSONALLY HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH STOLEN CARS OR ANY SORT OF ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR BUT A MEMBER OF MY FAMILY HAS LIKE NEARLY EVERY HOUSE HOLD IN WEST BELFAST AND THAT BRINGS ME BACK TO MY DIFFERENCE OF OPINON. I FEEL THAT WEST BELFAST BEING WHAT IT IS AND PEOPLE GROWING UP THE WAY THEY DO STOLEN CARS ARE SOMETHING THAT NEARLY EVERY PARENT HAS A DEALING WITH SOME ARE MORE LUCKY THAN OTHERS AND NEVER HAVE TO BEAWARE THAT THEIR CHILD HAS BEING INVOLVED IN CAR CRIME BUT OTHERS AREN!T AND THE RELAITY IS 9 OUT OF 10 ARE SO ABUSE AND INSULT THAT THESE KIDS ARE SCUM ETC IS NOT (IN MY VIEW) HELPING THE CAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE STARTED FROM THE GROUND SO INTIMIDATING THESE PEOPLE IS NOT HELPING IF THE PARENTS OF THESE KIDS VOICES WERE HEARD ALONG SIDE THE F.B.T.C.C CONDAMING THEIR ACTS AND SEEN SUPPORTING THE 15 YEAR SENTENCE! MAYBE THAT WOULD BE DETERRENT. STOLEN CARS HAVE BEING THE BIGGEST ANTI SOCIAL NOW DESTROYING THING THAT WEST BELFAST YOUTH HAVE BROUGHT ON THEIR OWN PEOPLE AND NOT ANY NORMAL THINKING HUMAN BEIGN COULD DISAGREE I LIKE MANY HAVE CURSED JOYRIDERS BUT NEVER THOUGHT TO DO ANYTHING REALLY ABOUT IT UNTIL IT WAS LANDED AT MY DOORSTEP SO I FINISH BY SAYING WHAT I STARTED I THINK OPEN YOUR MINDS AND HEARTS AND SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE ARE KIDS TO RARE IN THIS PLACE (AND YOU DON!T KNOW WERE YOUR CHILD IS ALL OF THE TIME) WE CAN CALL THEM SCUM ETC AND ASK FOR STIFFER SENTENCING BUT THAT IN IT!S SELF IS NOT GOING TO STOP :DEATH RIDERS:

Comments: In addition to the comments made by 'Stephen' on the guestbook I agree with what he states in relation to the duty of statutory bodies. The FBTCC should apply for appointment onto all appropriate bodies who hold purse strings when the public appointments open up. See website of OFDFM for dates. The families should sit on the Youth Council N.I, North & West Health & Social Services Trust, Belfast Education & Library Board, Probation Board N.I, and whoever else has influence on these matters. Thanks.

Comments: The Families Bereaved Through Car Crime Campaign Group have ensured that the issue of car crime and death driving has been brought to the fore of the public eye and are increasingly exerting major pressue on statutory bodies to take responsibility for their duty to delivering adequate youth provision, education, appropriate criminal justice measures, support to the families affected in every sense by carcrime. The people who decide policy and really do influence where money and resources go are simply not brave enough to deal with real issues which affect people daily. They are under major pressure to sit up take stock, flush their glossy policy documents, beauracratic system and start working for the needs of ordinary people. Stay to the front and keep running! Comments: Death-drivers are dangerous scum and slow learners when it comes to wiseing up and giving up their anti-neighbour behaviour.Today it was announced tough ,new sentances are to be adopted by the courts so maybe, just maybe the scum will ask themselves "is it worth it-doing time for car crime?"LOTS of time? Spread the message-this is NOT a good time to be a death-driver waiting to be sentanced.Lenient jail terms for killers from now on should flag up £10 touts-PSNI take note.

Comments: I think that something needs to be done about car crime because there is a lot of inocent people getting killed by joyriders. They should be locked up not go to court and get a stupid little fine or a warning that dosent stop them because they think they can get away with it again so it needs to be sorted out fast.

Comments: Six years ago after the UTV programme on car crime, I talked to Molly Brameld about the possibility of taking part in a short video to be shown in schools (p7 and p8). Molly was encouraging and willing. However, the idea never got off the ground because so many said it would take more than a short video to change the criminal mind, even the young criminal mind. Keep up the good work of lobbying for justice and pubicising the crime. The beer mats are great!

I am not making any excusses for myself but i got into joyriding through boardem. I would say this is a reason most people get into antisocial activities for.glue sniffing, and drugs was part of my everyday life and i would like to say that now thankfully i have wised up and support fbtcc 100% and hope they make other joyriders do the same too.

Comments: I start by saying congratulations to FBTCC. Reading the stories about my nephew, 'jon mc donald; and all the other senseless deaths makes me both angry and sad. Angry with the killers who believe they are having "fun" on our streets not caring about the line of deaths and destruction they leave behind them. Sad because I have experienced first hand the pain of burying someone close and so young. Therefore I hope and pray that the fbtcc for fill their dreams of longer and tougher sentencing for these "Death Riders" Our final thoughts must go to the mccomb family on the day of sentencing of the thug who killed your precious young Debbie. JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL

Comments: Now as I know what death riders are about, stealing cars and taking lives don't do it. I was once interested in "joyriding" , I was in and out of stolen cars caught up in solvent abuse thank god did not kill anyone. I was doing this for one year, then I heard of a place called I.M.P.A.C.T. They showed me what I was doing wrong, I already knew this, my cousin was killed and I missed him. but at the end of the day my stupidity could have killed some mothers son daughter nephew niece grandchild . so please kids don't be tempted because some day it could be yourself when your older burying your own loved one because of these people I didn't think it would happen to me.

Comments: Tonight I feel like no-one is listening and that no-one cares. Canavan and Campbell the scum who killed Kieran Conlon have got a slap on the wrists. A 12 month sentence for being a passenger in a stolen car that killed Kieran - a 4 year sentence for driving the car that killed Kieran. 4 years - he will serve 2 in the local holiday camp aka Hydebank. Just like Gerard Gaskin who killed my brother Patrick was out of hydebank before Patrick was dead 2 years. Who puts the price on a life? I'd like the judge to explain to my family, the Conlons and the other families in FBTCC that we have got justice. Any sane person will know that this is wrong. The punishment should fit the crime! To Kieran's mum, dad, sisters and all of his family - my thoughts are with you. There are no words to describe the feeling this day brings - but I understand.

Since May 26th '02 my life has fallen to pieces, trying to come to terms with the tragic loss of my best friend on a night when I chose not to go out has caused me serious problems. The only highlight of the year would be how well FBTCC have progressed in such a short period of time. Kids as young as 10 are travelling in these stolen cars, do their parents know what they are doing or do they even care? In Beechmount Avenue the other day a stolen car was racing up and down with kids aged about 11 glue sniffing in the back. How many more are going to lose their lives because of these scum? Parents of these kids should open their eyes to what their kids are doing to their own community.

Comments: Ill start by wishing all @F.B.T.C.C all the best in there quest for justice. I hope your hard work pays off and these scurge get wiped of our streets. And locked up for a long time. I would just like to comment on the point made about taxi drivers with no licence or insurance. Without a doubt this goes on in each an every area. This i know as fact its time to force all depot owners to check that there drivers have the proper documents to carry passangers. As we all know pirate drivers are on our roads.I personally have nothing against someone trying to make a few £ so long as they have the documents which permit them to drive.Illegal drivers should be stopped. And taxi depot owners should play there part just as we all should. Its time we all inform our taxi company that we as passengers demand that the owners check documents of his drivers. As our safety is his responsability. This is my thought. Thank you and good luck you have my wholehearted support.

We are doing all we can in our group to stop these run around cars being driven on our streets. We are talking of ways to try and combat this but if you have any ideas - let us know. Because we have lost members of our families it does not mean we are the only people responsible for trying to stop car crime. It is up to everyone in our communities to do their bit. If I knew of a taxi firm who was employing people without licences to carry passengers I would confront the manager of the taxi firm without a moments hesitation and I'm sure that the other members of FBTCC would do exactly the same. Have you done it? If you have what response did you get? Let us know. I also totally agree with the idea of naming and shaming death-drivers - for too long people have looked the other way. It's time to stand together as communities to tackle this problem because if we don't it will stay with us forever. The hardest thing I ever had to do in my life was to sit my brother Patrick's son and my three children down on a sunday morning and tell them that Patrick had been killed by death drivers. When they asked me why? I had no answer for them but at least now I can look them in the eyes and say I am doing something about it - for them, for Patrick and all the others.

Comments: I have lived in Poleglass for many years and have seen first hand the misery car thieves bring to a community. I have also seen how their behaviour is condoned by 'ordinay' drivers driving without licence tax or MOT. I would like to ask what should be done about these 'other' drivers? Should they be reported to the Police? Paramilitaries? Who? Some even work as Taxi drivers, ferrying innocent people around in their 'run-a-round' cars. With their dealings in dodgy tax discs etc these people create a support network for death drivers. They are the legitimate face of car theft. What can be done about them?

Comments: Barry - you've done a great job on the site. It was hard to look at Patrick's photo and all the others - they shouldn't be there. Now though people can see and read how important they were to us all and why our campaign is important. We do what we do because of them.

Comments: Having read some of the other guests comments and also knowing families who have tragically lost love ones my heart felt sympathy goes out to each and every family at this time of year,These people in my opinion should not have to endure the grief and loss brought upon them by some mindless thug. The sooner the law realizes what is actually happening on our streets and initates punishments in line with the crime of Murder the better. Obviously deterents in the past are not harsh enough therefore change should take place

Comments: I am a member of F.B.T.CC. My husband Jon Mcdonald was murdered by a carthief who was driving a runaround car.I am now left to bring up three young children on my own. My husband was coming home from a night out with friends when his life was so cruelly taken a way from him. This so called joyrider left Jon lying on the road he was not found until a few hours later by then it was to late for Jon he died on his way to hospital. I wonld just like to say well done to everybody in the group'we have come a long way in such a short time.
